1MDB: The bald truth

The-bare-truth_785One of the casualties of the mismanagement of Malaysia, where corruption and injustice appear to thrive, is our sense of humour…Some Malaysians cannot take a joke.

We have forgotten to laugh at ourselves. We cannot recognise satire, subtle humour or a witty pun.

There are many good satirists in Malaysia, but their work goes unrecognised. Or else, like Zunar, they are hounded and get charged for sedition. Not once, but many times…

To get some Malaysians to appreciate something funny, we sometimes have to say….”This is a joke ah….Don’t get angry ok… Only joking mah…”

Apparently, some of us, run amok at a perceived slight. These law-abiding, serious, and righteous, people then don red colour T-shirts and wage “war” on……of all things, the colour yellow. Our northern neighbour, has already got a red vs yellow movement. Where is the Malaysian red-shirts’ sense of   originality?

At least some politicians have retained their sense of humour, in these difficult times. PKR’s Rafizi Ramli, when asked if he cherished the idea of replacing Tony Pua in the debate with the chief executive of 1MDB, Arul Kanda Kandasamy, said, “…both of us are botak (bald) anyway. It’s not a good sight on TV”. (1)

Rafizi is aware that TV stations claim it costs more money to hire several make-up artists to powder the botak heads so that the glare does not interfere with the camera lights.

It is not all doom and gloom. There are many reasons why it is good to be botak.

For example, it is alleged that some people who are botak, have the most expensive and extensive collections of combs, from the first discovered comb believed to have originated from the cave men, to priceless diamond studded combs and James Bond type combs which double up as a weapons.

(Ed’s note: The 1MDB was cancelled for obvious reasons. The can of worms is one thing but too many distractions like botak activists, is another.)
