Happy Malaysia Day

iban_original After five decades of neglect, Sabahans and Sarawakians are angry that they do not enjoy equal status with Malaya. Despite being major oil and gas producers, they remain the poorest and third poorest “states” in Malaysia.

They also fear the rise of extremist Malay and Muslim groups. They are angry about the Allah issue and Bible rows. Although many detest the former Chief Minister Taib Mahmud, Sarawakians are grateful he has kept Umno-Baru out of Sarawak.

Secession is not a panacea for East Malaysia’s problems. Nothing will change if corrupt politicians are still in charge.
