KUALA LUMPUR, March 11th, 2020 – Social Economic Development And Research Institute (SEDAR) in collaboration with Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia will convene in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur on 21st March 2020 for FORUM RAKYAT: MALAYSIAN POLITICS IN POST PAKATAN HARAPAN’S GOVERNMENT to explore and discuss mainly on the political development in the country as well as the post Pakatan Harapan (PH) government and the new coalition, Perikatan Nasional. 

Following six decades of Barisan Nasional regime, PH secured the majority in the 14th General Election and managed to form the Federal Government in May 2018. However, the PH Federal Government fell earlier than expected at the end of February 2020. As such, this forum would be timely to provide a platform to understand how progressive can the new Perikatan Nasional government be and how the public view this change in government.

The admission to Forum Rakyat is free and will be moderated by Mr. Tai Zee How, the reknown political commentator and host of Ulasan Apek Cina.

This three-person panel forum will include Professor Dr. Mohd Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi who is the Advisor of Malaysian Action for Justice and Unity Foundation (MAJU) and also a lecturer at UCSI University. Prof Dr. Tajuddin is a prolific writer and speaker in architecture, politics, social issues and religious matters in which he has published books titled ‘Rethinking Malaysia’ and ‘Not the Islam I Know’.

Along with him will be Dr. Sharifah Munirah Alatas who is also an academician at the School of History, Politics and Strategic Studies, National University of Malaysia (UKM). Dr. Sharifah writes and speaks regularly on the politics of identity, education and social change in Malaysia. She is also a feature columnist for Astro Awani’s International Relations and World Politics section and The Karyawan which is a quarterly publication of Singapore’s Malay-Muslim community.

Ms. Ivlynn Yap Cheng Theng who is the Founder and Crisis Communications Lead Counsel of Citrine One would also be joining in as a panel member. Ms. Ivlynn is passionate about communications and its role in managing issues and influence public opinions.  She has shared her experiences and thoughts through speaking and training opportunities and is frequently invited to address top management and leaders in various associations, varsities and corporate organizations. Ms. Ivlynn has recently been invited to speak at IABC World Conference, one of the largest congregation of business communications leaders of the world on June 15, 2020 in Chicago, USA.

This forum will examine and provide insights on the current and future political development of our country.
