It started with clowns, and “1MDB”.
Today, Najib Abdul Razak expressed disappointment that the RM100 million embezzlement, in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, remained undetected for six years.
He urged the authorities and Attorney-General to act.
He demanded transparency and accountability.
He said his government wouldn’t compromise when tackling corruption.
Where was the transparency in the RM4 billion donation and 1MDB?
A social cynic said, “When 1MDB was finally exposed, the rakyat were fed with umpteen excuses. Their were alleged cover-ups and extraordinary claims that an Arab prince made the RM2.6 billion donation. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) later said the donation was nearer RM4 billion.
“Malaysians have been arrested, harassed and sued, but the authorities left WSJ alone. This highlights the government’s hypocrisy.
“So, for Najib to say that he was concerned the RM100 million graft case lay undetected for six years, means diddly squat.
“He did not come clean about 1MDB, Jho Low’s involvement, the allegations about foreign money being used to influence the General Election 13 results, the role of SRC, and the money which allegedly appeared in his personal bank account.”
How clean are other ministries?
One political analyst said, “This “undetected” graft in the Youth Ministry is the tip of the iceberg. They will be shocked when they probe other ministries.
“If an official can run off with RM100 million, just imagine what the ones higher up in the pecking order can amass.
“Few Malaysians think our ministers are “Mr. Clean””
With “undetectable” ministerial corruption and billion of ringgits unaccounted, people will say that “1MDB”refers to the state of the nation, “1-Malaysia-Declares-Bankruptcy”.
An extension of the “You help you, I help you” culture
There must have been ministerial staff who saw and know what their colleagues were up to. They would have seen their luxurious lifestyles and wondered, “All this on a civil servant’s salary?”
Alarms bells rang but staff were too scared to report them, because they feared for their jobs. Whistleblowers in Malaysia, get prosecuted for alerting the authorities.
Public officials love money
The outcome of the Youth Ministry’s corruption:-
First. The rakyat will reinforce the belief that government servants love money more, than than they do serving the public.
When caught with their pants down, ministers claim to urge immediate action, transparency and all the catch words they know, will please the public.
Second. The authorities will tighten-up fiscal procedures, but the smart ah-leks (ministerial swindlers, who are a cross breed between ‘ah-longs’ and ‘smart alecs’.) are finding methods, for future embezzlement to continue unabated.
The smart ah-leks will ensure that only they know the backdoor routes and ways to evade detection.
Blame it on clowns.
