GE14 – My Hope

159Shares

Yin hopes that GE-14 will start the trend towards ending single race political parties and that Najib is made accountable for all his actions, including his alleged involvement with the Mongolian model, Altantuya Shaariibuu.

He urges us to dictate our terms to the politicians. We are the boss. Not them!

Yin: It’s depressing every time I hear the ‘experts’ declare “game over”.  If this is not ‘fake news’ then it is manipulation; done to demoralise voters into thinking that they may as well not vote and give a ‘walkover’ to Najib Abdul Razak/UMNO.

No one really knows what will happen on polling day. Certainly the deck is stacked against Pakatan Harapan (PH), the dice is loaded, the game fixed, BUT if a week is a long time in politics then four weeks is an eternity. Anything can happen.

I don’t want to bring Mahathir Mohamad into the equation – readers know where I stand on this. I won’t even bother with DAP – opportunists who will pawn their beliefs at the sniff of power.

Najib/UMNO

I hope we will see the beginning of the end of single race political parties (including PPBM). MCA, MIC, the walking dead will be buried – I guarantee that.

I hope Najib will be made to answer for a lot of things – not just on 1MBD but also his alleged involvement with Altantuya.

But truth be told, this is not going to happen because Malaysian politicians cover each other’s backs – a deal will be struck.  (Already DAP has forgotten its oath to enquire into Mahathir’s dealings).

“You don’t dig into my dark deeds, I don’t dig into yours” – unlike in Korea, Israel, Brazil and South Africa.

So if you are thinking PH will bring a new dawn, think again!

But what a change of government can do is to give hope for the future. That it will be the first step in a journey of a thousand li for our country. A chance to rediscover our multiracial past, of neighbours eating with neighbours whatever their race or religion. Of policies based on fairness, of give and take,  a philosophy of  live and let live which the Tunku fostered.

Yes PH will be an improvement BUT only if Mahathir does not play the others out.

Niccolo Machiavelli aka Mahathir will do anything to get into power including going back to UMNO – after he has got rid of Najib. It will be a reverse takeover by PPBM whose membership is almost all ex UMNO big shots who denied a place at the trough have rebelled.

Let’s hope this does not happen.

Short of taking over Putrajaya the next best thing is for PH to wrest more states from BN.

The first state I would like to see BN lose is PERAK. Because it’s my home state – simple as that. But also because the previous PR Govt was robbed of office for the Biblical ‘thirty pieces of silver’.

The short-lived PR Govt was not in office long enough for Perakeans to judge how good they are. Or how bad! Given enough rope they might have hung themselves; who knows.  I remember the swagger and arrogance of certain PR aduns, their acolytes and hangers-on. It was the same –  jobs for the boys (like BN),  Ipoh City Hall was still stacked with party hacks or supporters, not to mention public bodies like the  Water Board or Port Commission.

Still I think a change of government is long overdue – to give the other side a chance to see what they can do.

So what exactly am I saying?

  1. Vote out Najib/UMNO/BN

Nail the MCA, MIC coffin tight so the dead don’t walk among us again.

  1. If a change of govt is not possible then hopefully BN will lose many State Governments.

But most of all Malaysians must not be contented with just a change of government – only to accept the same crap by PH – less crap perhaps but nevertheless still crap.

This is where I disagree with the pragmatists who think the lesser of two evils is good enough. That the job is done.

Nothing is good enough for our country except a united, fair, efficient, transparent and accountable government, run by dedicated civil servants, and politicians of integrity. But it is for Civil Society to demand that.

Unless Civil Society itself is objective and equally question whatever party is in power then it can be manipulated.

Right now you see citizens complaining about the bad deeds of one side and ignoring the same thing done by their side.

Malaysians must remember that political parties don’t own us. They are not our boss. We are their boss although they forget that as soon as the election is over.

The trouble with Malaysians is that by and large we are an apathetic lot unlike the Filipinos, Thais, Indonesians, Koreans.

We deserve the government we get for this reason.

If you vote (and I am not saying that you should if you are a conscientious objector – it is your right to protest in any way you like) then I suppose PH smells less foul.

The Fat Lady has not sung yet. So don’t give up!

May Allah Bless Malaysia.

Unlike politics in Korea or Taiwan where they run on principles and thus have jailed their former presidents, our local politics are motivated by objectives. And the objective is to win, any which way. Never in my wildest dream did I imagine Tun M sitting together with Dr Wan Azizah and Lim Kit Siang while PAS sleeps with UMNO. We have to accept such contradictory partnership with the hope that PH after the victory, will run on principles. Do we have any other choice?
